Mount Everest (8848 meters)

Mount Everest is the tallest mountain peak in the world. It has a height of 8848 meters above sea level as of now. It is located in the borders of Nepal and china with the international border running across the precise summit point. The mountain is also known as Sagarmatha in Nepal. This highest mountain in the world is part of the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas which is also home to many other tall mountains of the world.

The mountain was officially recognised as the highest mountain in 1856 by Andrew Waugh. During that time, the peak was known as peak XV. The name Mount Everest was also given by Waugh. He named it after the welsh surveyor George Everest who was his predecessor as the surveyor general of India.

There have been so people who have tried to climb the peak of Mount Everest. The first official ascent of Mount Everest was done by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary. They made this achievement in 1953 using the south East Ridge route.
